![]() ![]() Just take care to learn how to play first, or its complexity will cause a lot of confusion and frustration. For anyone interested in playing Nemesis: Lockdown, but can't afford to drop $150 for the physical version, the digital adaption provides a chance to experience this amazing game. It puts other digital board games to shame with its level of quality, perfectly encapsulating the detail and polish the board game had. Nemesis: Lockdown is easily one of the most impressive digital adaptions of a board game ever. ![]() Luckily, the developers have stated that they are working on the inclusion of an in-game tutorial and more tooltips as their first priority. There are very few tooltips or explanations of what characters, items or interactive objects actually do, which makes learning the game while playing even harder. As a result of its Early Access status, there is no in-game tutorial to speak of yet, and while there are tutorial videos available, the game is much easier for players who already know what they're doing. The digital adaptation of Nemesis: Lockdown is not without its flaws, however. Aside from the visuals, one of the best features of Nemesis: Lockdown is the event log that keeps track of every action that players take and what happens during end-of-round events. The graphics make Nemesis: Lockdown look less like a digital adaption of a board game and more like a turn-based strategy game. Rooms and interactive objects are fully detailed, and each character pawn is fully animated and programmed to move realistically. The video game version of Nemesis: Lockdown maintains the same gameplay and mechanics as its tabletop counterpart, but also provides graphical detail and immersion that is simply impossible in a board game. A player can suspect that someone is out to get them, but that doesn't mean they actually are. ![]() However, instead of having dedicated teams, Nemesis keeps betrayals organic and random. This leads Nemesis to act similarly to a social deduction game like Among Us. While Nemesis is ostensibly a cooperative game where everyone is trying to survive and escape, the only path to actual victory is by completing an objective. So, get over there and check it out. What makes the Nemesis games unique is how objectives do not necessarily lead to cooperation. The game is available on Kickstarter for just under three more weeks at the time of this writing. If you're on the lookout for a new, massive board game, Nemesis Lockdown might be worth a look. Of course, part of that is the base game being so great, but still. And it seems to be working with over $3 million pledged so far. Truly, this is one of the more innovative Kickstarter campaigns I've seen in a while. It's a fun way to drive interaction that you don't see that often on Kickstarter. Even from day one, they're letting fans vote on which alien race they'd like to see included in the game. The team is also directly incorporating player feedback into the box. ![]() This ensures everything makes it into the box and keeps the hype rolling as new stuff is revealed. Awaken Realms is instead just having the stretch goals unlock every few days. Most campaigns either have stretch goals based on money raised or do away with the process entirely. The Kickstarter campaign for Nemesis Lockdown is live until June 18th, with a pledge of 116 (£95) getting a copy of the game. Somewhat interestingly, the Nemesis Lockdown Kickstarter is being run a little differently than your typical campaign. Nemesis Lockdown will be published by Awaken Realms, the company behind Nemesis and other titles including video game board game This War of Mine and last year’s Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. For $118 you're getting a truckload of content to play through. This box comes jam-packed with cardboard. You and up to four friends can jump into the "cinematic Sci-Fi horror" and choose to play in either semi or full co-op. The new expansion doesn't require the base game but will work with almost all of the game's previous content. And now, the game is getting a great-looking, stand-alone expansion, Nemesis Lockdown. It quickly shot up the Board Game Geek charts due to its excellent gameplay and challenging choices. Awaken Realms' Nemesis is a thrilling semi-cooperative board game that tosses you and your teammates onto an infested spaceship. ![]()
